Rand Paul signs Tax Appeal Pledge at Atlas Machine and Supply

Louisville, KY - October 21, 2010 - News crews descended on Atlas Machine and Supply, Inc. today for a news conference by U.S. Senate candidate Rand Paul at the company's headquarters located in the Jefferson Riverport. About a dozen TV, radio, newspaper and wire services representatives—including national reporters with FOX News and CNN—showed up for the event where Paul signed a Death Tax Repeal Pledge, committing his vote to repeal the tax.
Unless the Death Tax is appealed, beginning January 1, 2011, family-owned businesses--like Atlas Machine and Supply--will go from paying 0 % to 55 % of a company’s value when the owner dies. The federal estate taxation will jeopardize jobs and continued operation of family businesses in Kentucky and across the nation, said Rich Gimmel, President of Atlas Machine and Supply, during the event hosted by his company.
Also speaking at the news conference was Dick Patten, President of the American Family Business Institute (AFBI), a national organization committed to helping family business-owners and farmers repeal the Death Tax. By signing of the Repeal Pledge, Patten noted that Paul joins a growing list of candidates committing their support for abolishing the tax.
Following the news conference, Gimmel gave Paul a tour of the company’s Shop Floor, where he had the opportunity to talk to several of Atlas’ skilled machinists about issues of concern to them.
