Atlas Machine & Supply is proud to recognize Noah Campbell, Dalton Lee and Nate Banks for completing the Atlas Machinist Apprenticeship Program and earning their state-recognized Journeyman’s Certificates.
The three were recognized alongside their coworkers during Atlas’ annual summer cookout at the Louisville shop, marking the end of one chapter in their training and the beginning of the next in their careers.
Becoming a journeyman doesn’t happen overnight.
Atlas’ state-registered Machinist Apprenticeship Program combines technical education with 8,000 hours of On-the-Job Training (OJT) completed over the course of approximately four years. During that time, apprentices work alongside experienced Atlas machinists, developing their skills on real jobs and learning the trade firsthand.
For Noah, Dalton and Nate, receiving their certificates represents thousands of hours spent doing exactly that — showing up, learning, working and steadily becoming better at their craft.
For nearly 120 years, skilled craftsmen have been at the heart of Atlas Machine & Supply.
The machines and technology inside our shops may look different than they did generations ago, but developing skilled people still happens much the same way: experienced tradespeople passing their knowledge on to the people coming up behind them.
That philosophy continues through the Atlas Apprenticeship Program.
Atlas has worked to create stronger pathways into the skilled trades through partnerships with Meade County, Breckinridge County, Southern and Grayson County schools. Graduates of qualifying machining programs can enter the Atlas apprenticeship with their Related Technical Instruction (RTI) requirements already completed, allowing them to focus on accumulating the hands-on experience required to become a journeyman.
Atlas also participates in Kentucky’s TRACK (Tech Ready Apprentices for Careers in Kentucky) Youth Apprenticeship Program, which allows students to begin earning paid OJT hours while they are still in high school.
Together, these programs help create a direct path from the classroom, to the shop floor, to becoming a skilled journeyman.
The apprenticeship program represents more than filling positions in the skilled trades. It reflects one of the reasons Atlas continues to invest in developing people from within.
Our mission is to create opportunities for our people.
For an apprentice, that opportunity starts with learning a trade. Over time, it can become a career built around a skill they can carry with them for the rest of their lives.
Noah, Dalton and Nate have now reached an important milestone in that journey. They put in the hours, learned from the experienced people around them and earned the right to call themselves journeymen.
Their certificates may mark the completion of the apprenticeship program, but they certainly don’t mark the end of their learning.
